POTSDAM, NY -- Senior attackman
Dawson Tait (Ottawa, Ontario/Mother Teresa) scored a game-high six goals, and classmate
Walker Hare (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville) made 17 saves in net as the No. 1 RIT (7-0, 3-0 Liberty League) men's lacrosse team stayed unbeaten with a 21-8 win at Clarkson University (3-6, 1-2 Liberty League) Thursday afternoon.
Shots were 45-40 in favor of RIT, while Clarkson won the ground ball battle, 39-38. The Tigers won 14-of-33 face-offs and went 20-of-25 on clearing attempts. RIT went 1-for-3 on man-up and caused nine turnovers.
Tait led RIT with six goals and seven points. Senior
Larson Sundown (Basom, NY/Akron) tallied three goals and four points, while
Quinn Commandant (Rockwood, Ontario/The Kiski School) (2g, 1a) and
Ryan Barnable (Whitby, Ontario/Donald A. Wilson) (1g, 2a) each finished with three points. Hare improved to 7-0 on the season, making 17 saves in net for the Tigers. Senior defenseman
Tyler Sceviour (Calgary, Alberta/Bowness) caused a turnvoer and led the Tigers with seven ground balls.
Pierce Currie led Clarkson with three goals. Jay Considine tallied two goals, and Conor Bartlett had two assists. Kevin Dyckman took the loss in net for the Golden Knights, making 10 saves.
Tied 1-1 late in the first quarter, RIT ran off three straight goals, taking a 4-1 lead on a Barnable goal with 3:44 to play in the quarter. Currie cut the RIT lead to 4-2 with his goal with :01 second left on the clock.
Tait scored his second of the game early in the second quarter off an assist from
Marley Angus (Oakville, Ontario/Holy Trinity) that gave RIT a 5-2 lead. Clarkson scored two straight, cutting the RIT lead to 5-4 on a Bryan Penny goal with six minutes to play in the half.
The Tigers scored the final three goals of the quarter, including two in the final :34 seconds to lead 8-4 at halftime. Tait scored his third of the half off an assist from Barnable that made it 6-4. Sundown gave the Tigers a 7-4 lead on his goal with :34 seconds to play. He scored with :02 remaining off an assist from defenseman,
Patrick Shoemay (Surrey, British Columbia/Holy Cross), to give the Tigers a four-goal halftime lead.
Angus made it four straight goals for RIT with his goal early in the third quarter, while senior long-stick midfielder
Brett Naylor (Clarence, NY/Clarence) scored on the ensuing face-off to extend the RIT lead to 10-4. Christian Canino made it 10-5 with his goal, but the Tigers closed the quarter scoring four straight goals to lead 14-5. Tait scored twice, while Commandant and Rosenblum each scored.
RIT outscored the Golden Knights 7-3 in the fourth quarter, including a goal from senior
Nick Montemorano (Victor, NY/Victor) off the opening face-off quarter to give RIT. Tait,
Zeb Hollinger (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove),
Luke Pilcher (Oakville, Ontario/Everest Academy),
Conor Bollin (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder),
Andrew Doktor (Rochester, NY/Eastridge) and
John Mozrall (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford) all scored for the Tigers.
RIT is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, April 24, at 2 p.m. at Vassar College.
