Women's lacrosse loses at home to No. 19 William Smith

ROCHESTER, NY -- Senior attack Alanna Fallone (Penfield, NY/Penfield) scored four goals, while junior midfielder McKenna Joint (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) tallied two goals and two assists, but it wasn't enough as the RIT (6-3, 2-3 Liberty League) women's lacrosse team was defeated, 16-11 by No. 19 William Smith College (5-3, 5-2 Liberty League) on a cold and rainy RIT Turf Field Friday.

Shots were 41-17 in favor of William Smith, while the Herons won the ground ball battle, 25-11. The Tigers won 11 draw controls, 11-of-22 on clearing attempts and converted 9-of-13 free position attempts. Fallone led RIT with four goals, while sophomore Kayleigh Ground (Macedon, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) scored three goals. Joint finished with two goals and four points and Baylee West (Hummelstown, PA/Hershey) scored two goals. Senior Pauline Goodermote took the loss in net for the Tigers, making 16 saves. Sophomore Rose Core (Syosset, NY/St. Anthony's) caused three turnovers and was one of four Tigers to scop up two ground balls.

Anna Murphy and Maddie Montgomery led William Smith with five goals apiece. Molly Davis finished with three goals and an assist, while Maddie Bamberger picked up the win in net for the Herons, making three saves.

West gave RIT an early lead on her goal at the 27:21 mark of the first half off an assist from Joint. The Herons ran off four straight goals, taking a 4-1 lead on Murphy's goal at the 16:32 mark of the half. Ground converted a free position attempt with 15:56 to play that cut the lead to 4-2, but William Smith ran off three more goals, taking a 7-2 lead on Montgomery's free position goal. Joint scored with 9:35 remaining that made the score 7-3, but the Herons scored three straight to end the first half leading 10-3.

Fallone scored two straight goals in the second half that cut the William Smith lead to 13-7. Davis scored with 11:45 remaining in regulation to extend the Herons lead to 16-7, but the Tigers rallied, closing the game with a four-goal run to make it a 16-11 final. Fallone scored twice in the final run, while Joint and Ground each score.
