No. 1 RIT men's lacrosse downs Ithaca in Liberty League action Wednesday

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Junior midfielder Marley Angus (Oakville, Ontario/Holy Trinity) and sophomore Zeb Hollinger (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove) each tallied three goals as the No. 1 RIT (5-0, 1-0 Liberty League) men's lacrosse team beat No. 20 Ithaca College (3-2, 1-1 Liberty League) 21-6 in Liberty League action Wednesday afternoon.
 
Shots were 50-36 in favor of RIT, winning the ground ball battle 40-27. The Tigers won 18-of-31 face-offs and went 27-of-29 on clearing attempts.

Angus and Hollinger led the Tigers with three goals apiece. Quinn Commandant (Rockwood, Ontario/The Kiski School) and Larson Sundown (Basom, NY/Akron) each tallied a goal and an assist, while Pent Eistrat (Toronto, Ontario/Humberside Collegiate), Luke Pilcher (Oakville, Ontario/Everest Academy) and Spencer Bell (Fairport, NY/Fairport) each tallied a pair of goals. First-years Seth Grottenthaler (Corning, NY/Corning), Connor Finneran (Andover, MA/Central Catholic), Caleb Commandant (Rockwood, Ontario/The Kiski School) and Ian Dinga (Bristow, VA/Battlefield) each scored their first collegiate goals.
 
Senior Nick Montemorano (Victor, NY/Victor) won 14-of-22 draws and had six ground balls for RIT. Hare improved to 5-0 on the season, making nine saves in net for the Tigers. Brett Naylor (Clarence, NY/Clarence), Patrick Shoemay (Surrey, British Columbia/Holy Cross), Sean Traynor (Highlands Ranch, CO/Valor Christian) and Andrew Powlin (Penfield, NY/Penfield) each caused two turnovers.

John Sramac led Ithaca with three goals, while Ted Kapp finished with a goal and an assist for the Bombers. Connor Thornton took the loss in net for Ithaca, making 10 saves.

RIT led 8-1 after the first quarter, sandwiching two four-goal runs in between an Ithaca goal. Eistrat scored two goals in the frame for the Tigers.
 
Bell, Sundown and Commandant each scored in the second quarter for RIT as the Tigers outscored the Bombers 3-2 to lead 11-3 at halftime.

Angus began the third quarter with two straight goals, giving RIT a 13-3 lead on his goal off an assist from Sundown early in the quarter. Hollinger, Grottenthaler and Pilcher each scored as the Tigers blanked Ithaca 5-0 in the quarter.

Pilcher, Hollinger, Conor Bollin (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder), Dinga and Finneran all scored in the fourth quarter for the Tigers, and Charlie Niebuhr and Kapp scored for the Bombers to make it a 21-6 final score.
 
RIT returns to action on Saturday, April 17, at 2 p.m. against No. 10 St. Lawrence University.
