Baseball opens 2021 season with 19-3 victory over Elmira

HOUGHTON, N.Y. – RIT senior first baseman Daniel Capra (North Salem, NY/North Salem) finished 5-for-6 with a homerun and three runs scored while junior third baseman Patrick Blackall (Hershey, PA/Hershey) went 4-for-5 with two doubles, four runs scored and three RBI to lead the Tigers to a 19-3 victory over Elmira in the season-opener, Friday, played at Houghton.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Capra led off the game with a home run over the right field fence before back-to-back, two-out RBI doubles by junior right fielder Ian Libby (Melrose, MA/Malden Catholic) and sophomore shortstop Nate Kistler (Lusby, MD/Patuxent) pushed the Tigers to an early 3-0 lead.
  • Freshman second baseman Randy Dodig (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) led off the second inning with a double and came around on a one-out Blackhall double. Blackhall and freshman center fielder Brooks Vertoske (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) came around on a misplayed ball by the Elmira left fielder on a hit by Libby to push RIT's lead to 6-0.
  • RIT broke the game open with a nine-runs on eight hits in the fourth. Capra collected two hits and scored a pair of runs while Blackhall also came across twice as the Tiger lead ballooned to 15-0.

GAME NOTES
