STATE COLLEGE, PA -- The RIT (1-10-0, 1-10-0 CHA) women's hockey team was defeated 2-0 at No. 8 Penn State University (12-1-2, 12-1-2 CHA) in CHA action from the Pegula Ice Arena Tuesday.
Shots were 47-12 in favor of Penn State. The Tigers took three penalties for six minutes, while the Nittany Lions took one penalty for two minutes. RIT was 0-for-1 on the power play, and held Penn State to zero goals in three power play chances.Â
Sophomore goaltender
Taylor Liotta (Mississauga, Ontario/Oakville Hornets) took the loss in net for the Tigers, making a career high 45 saves.Â
Julie Gough and Izzy Heminger each scored for Penn State, and Josie Bothun picked up the win in net for the Nittany Lions, making 12 saves.
Heminger gave Penn State the lead on her even-strength goal at 9:09 of the first period. Liotta and the Tigers defense held the Nittany Lions the remaining of the period, trailing 1-0 after 20 minutes.
RIT had its best scoring chance late in the second period, firing three shots on target while on the power play.
Taylor Sims (Deep River, Ontario/Ottawa Lady Senators) had two shots back-to-back, while
Ellie Larson (Hutchinson, Minn./ ) had a shot saved by Bothun.
Gough scored at 5:23 of the third period to make it a 2-0 final.
RIT will face Penn State on Wednesday, Feb. 10, at 5:05 p.m.
