ROCHESTER, N.Y. - RIT senior forwards
Alden Dupuis (Edmonton, Alberta) and
Jake Hamacher (Corona, Calif.) each scored a goal while sophomore goalie
Kolby Matthews (Coquitlam, British Columbia) made a career-high 31 saves to lead the Tigers to a 2-1 victory over visiting Mercyhurst, Friday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- RIT scored both its goals during a four-minute stretch of the second period. Sophomore forward Elijah Gonsalves (Scarborough, Ontario) corralled a loose puck off the boards behind the Laker goal and backhanded a pass in front of the right post to Hamacher, who chipped a shot into the top-left corner of the goal with 14:18 on the clock.
- Senior forward Bryson Traptow (Calgary, Alberta) centered a pass from the left face-off circle into the slot to Dupuis, who made a nifty move to elude a Laker defender in front of the right post and backhand a shot under the center of the cross bar with 10:38 remaining in the period.
- Mercyhurst got one back with 6:04 left in regulation after sophomore forward Brendan Schneider finished a two-on-one break.
- Matthews kept the Lakers off the board the rest of the way, totaling 14 saves in the third period.
GAME NOTES
- Matthews made his second-career start and first since stopping 26 shots in a 3-2 win over No. 13 UMass-Lowell last season (Jan. 11) at the Polisseni Center.
- Sophomore defenseman Calvon Boots (Fairbanks, Alaska) was credited with an assist on Dupuis' goal for his first career point.
