Women's hockey loses at home to No. 8 Penn State

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (1-13-0, 1-13-0 CHA) women's hockey team was defeated 5-0 by No. 8 Penn State University (14-1-2, 14-1-12 CHA) in College Hockey America action from the Gene Polisseni Center Friday afternoon.

Shots were 52-13 in favor of Penn State. RIT took three penalties for six minutes, and the Nittany Lions took one penalty for two minutes. Penn State was 1-for-3 on the power, while the Tigers went 0-for-1 with the extra skater. Sophomore goaltender Taylor Liotta (Mississauga, Ontario/Oakville Hornets) took the loss in net for the Tigers, making a career-best 47 saves.

Freshman Julie Gough led Penn State with three goals, while first-year Kiara Zanon had three assists. First-year forward Maeve Connolly handed out two assists and classmate Josie Bothun picked up the win in net for the Nittany Lions, making 13 saves.

Penn State tallied two goals late in the first period to lead 2-0 after the first 20 minutes. The Nittany Lions scored twice in the second period, and tacked on an additional goal in the third period to make it a 5-0 final.

These same two teams will play again on Saturday, February 20, at 12 p.m. from the Gene Polisseni Center. RIT will honor the class of 2021 prior to tomorrow's game.
