ST. CHARLES, MO. – RIT sophomore forward
Lindsay Maloney's tally got the Tigers within a goal at 2-1, but Lindenwood's special teams play was the difference, handing RIT a 4-1 setback, Friday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lindenwood took a 2-0 first period lead after a pair of power-play goals 4:40 apart, with the first coming 8:01 into the contest, followed by another after 12:41 of play.
- The Tigers cut the Lions' deficit in half after Maloney took a cross-ice pass near the left post from the right-side circle by freshman forward Megan McCormick. Sophomore forward Emma Roland sent a pass to McCormick from the left circle to also earn an assist after senior forward Abby Davies allowed the Tigers to keep possession deep in the Lions' end with a takeaway shortly after a Tigers' power play expired.
- Lindenwood added a pair of goals in the second period in a 3:44 span. The first came at even strength 10:22 into the middle frame and the second goal was scored on the power play with 5:54 left in the period.
GAME NOTES
- Maloney's goal and Roland's assist allowed the pair to remain the team's top scorers with eight points each.
- Junior goaltender Taylor Liotta allowed no goals and finished with 14 saves after relieving freshman Sarah Coe, who registered 21 stops through the first 34:06.
- RIT's 21 blocked shots gave the Tigers 20 or more blocks in nine of its last 10 contests.
- Lindenwood held a 39-19 edge in shots on goal with Maloney registering a team-best four shots.
- The Lions finished with a 37-14 edge in face-off wins.
