ST. CHARLES, MO. – RIT junior goaltender
Taylor Liotta made 38 saves, but it was a pair of Lindenwood power-play goals that gave the Lions a 3-1 victory, Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless first period, junior forward Hana Solinger staked the Tigers to a 1-0 lead 16:12 into the second period. Solinger shot from the crease area after driving to the net and receiving a pass on the left side from freshman forward Athena Vasdani. The play started when freshman defender Mia Tsilemos sent a long pass from her defensive zone up the left boards to Vasdani at the attacking blueline.
- Lindenwood tied the game at 1-1 on the power play with just two seconds left in the second.
- The Lions got the game winner from senior defender Maddison Stitt, unassisted on the power play in the final minute of regulation with 42 seconds left, before adding an empty-net goal with 19 seconds remaining.
GAME NOTES
- For the second-consecutive day, Lindenwood's power play decided the game.
- During the weekend series, Liotta didn't allow an even strength goal and finished the weekend with a .963 save percentage and a 1.41 goals-against average, after stopping 52 of 54 shots in 85:17.
- Solinger's goal gave her two in the last three games.
- RIT's 26 blocked shots gave the Tigers 20 or more blocks in 10 of its last 11 contests, with Vasdani and freshman defender Kyla Bear leading the way with four blocks each.
- Lindenwood held a 38-22 edge in shots on goal with sophomore forward Lindsay Maloney registering a team-best five shots.
- The Lions finished with a 41-23 edge in face-off wins.
