ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT Men's Lacrosse coach
Jake Coon was named the 2021 United State Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division III Coach of the Year award, announced Friday. Coon was named the nation's top coach for the third time after also winning the award in 2011 and 2013.
Coon led the Tigers to their first national championship and a perfect 14-0 record this past spring, including a 15-14 double-overtime win opposite Salisbury in the national championship game.
Compiling a 206-23 record (.900 winning %) in 12 seasons leading the program, Coon has led RIT to 11-straight NCAA Tournament berths, including three national title game appearances and seven semifinal finishes. He has also guided the program to 11-straight conference championships, including the program's ninth-consecutive Liberty League title this past year.
The five-time Liberty League and Empire 8 Coach of the Year has coached 84 All-Americans and 15 major award winners including
Walker Hare, who won his second straight Ensign Markland Kelly Jr. award as the nation's top goalie.
RIT begins the 2022 season on February 19 hosting Muhlenberg at 12:00 p.m.
