SYRACUSE, N.Y. – RIT freshman goaltender
Sarah Coe made 52 saves, but it was host Syracuse who took the contest, 3-2 in OT, in College Hockey America action Friday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Syracuse took a 1-0 lead after senior forward Lauren Bellefontaine converted a backhand rebound from senior forward Abby Moloughney with 85 seconds left in the first.
- Freshman forward Megan McCormick tied the game at 1-1 for RIT 2:09 into the second period, after she intercepted a pass outside the Orange blueline and scored an unassisted breakaway goal with a shot from the crease.
- The Orange retook the lead on the power play after graduate student defender Jessica DiGirolamo's shot from the left point found the back of the net.
- Kyla Bear tied the contest with 47 seconds in the second period at 2-2, after she deposited the puck into an open left side from just outside the goal crease. She initiated the play from her own blueline and gained the Orange zone before unleashing a shot just inside the Syracuse line and continuing to the net to find a loose puck directed to her by sophomore forward Emma Roland. Freshman Jordyn Bear also earned an assist.
- Freshman forward Sarah Marchand scored in OT for Syracuse on a 3-on-1 after the play developed deep in Syracuse's end. Her shot from the right circle found its way to the back of the net after using her teammates as decoys on the play.
GAME NOTES
- Coe's 52 saves were season and career highs.
- It was Coe's ninth game with 30 or more saves.
- For the third-consecutive game, the Tigers entered the third period tied.
- Freshman defender Kyla Bear scored her first collegiate goal.
- Maloney's assist gave her sole possession of the team scoring lead with six points.
- Senior defender Taylor Sims recorded a team-high four blocks to increase her team-leading total to 29.
