Women’s Hockey set to open CHA play with Syracuse this weekend

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The RIT women's hockey team begins Conference Hockey America action with a pair of games this weekend against Syracuse. The Tigers travel to Syracuse on Friday, Nov. 5 with a 7 p.m. start at the Tennity Ice Pavilion before hosting the Orange on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 6 p.m. at the Gene Polisseni Center.

LAST TIME OUT
RIT is back in action following a pair of setbacks to visiting St. Thomas last week. The Tigers fell, 3-1, last Friday and 2-1 on Saturday. RIT took a season-high 26 shots in the 2-1 loss. Freshman goatender Sarah Coe  is third nationally with 303 saves after recording back-to-back 30-plus save performances in the St. Thomas series. She has eight games with 30-plus saves this season that includes the top-two CHA save performances at 40 and 39 against UConn (Oct. 8-9).

CONFERENCE LEADERS
The Tigers lead the CHA in saves with 355 and are No. 2 nationally behind St. Anselm. RIT also leads the CHA in blocks with 165 with seven Tigers recording double-digit blocks this season. RIT leads the CHA in rookie of the week honors with three.

ROOKIE AWARDS PILING UP
RIT freshman forward Kylie Aquaro was named College Hockey America Rookie of the Week, Monday, for netting goals in both games against St. Thomas last weekend. Aquaro is the third Tiger to win the honor this season following freshman defender Bailey Kehl (Oct. 4) and freshman goaltender Sarah Coe (Oct. 11).

TEAM LEADERS
Sophomore forward Emma Roland leads the team with four goals and co-leads the team with five points along with sophomore forward Lindsay Maloney (3g, 2a). Freshman defender Bailey Kehl leads the team with four assists. Senior defender Taylor Sims' 25 blocks is tied for fourth nationally.

SCOUTING THE ORANGE
Syracuse is 2-5-2 overall and 1-1 in CHA play after splitting a pair of road games at Lindenwood last time out. The Orange won 3-1 on Friday, Oct. 22, before dropping a 5-3 game, Saturday, Oct. 23. Senior forward Abby Moloughney leads the Orangs with six goals and nine points.

RIT VS. SYRACUSE - HISTORY
The Tigers are 11-23-4 against the Orange that includes a .500 record over the last 10 games (4-4-2). Sixteen of the 38 contests were decided by one goal or less. The series between the Orange and Tigers dates back to Nov. 10, 2012 with a 2-2 tie in Rochester. The first seven contests (2012-14) were decided by one goal or less.
