ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT junior forward
Hana Solinger's goal got the Tigers within one score, but St. Lawrence scored three in the third period to take the contest, 5-1, Tuesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Saints took a 1-0 lead 11:48 into the first period after first-year forward Abby Hustler corralled a wide shot off the Tigers' netting and walked out alone from the side.
- Just 94 seconds later, St. Lawrence extended its lead to 2-0, after sophomore forward Rachel Bjorgan took a well-executed drop pass for a shot from the high slot.
- The Tigers cut the lead at 2-1 on the power play. Solinger redirected sophomore forward Emma Roland's shot from just inside the left blue line after receiving a pass from sophomore forward Lindsay Maloney from the low left side with 2:26 left in the first period.
- After a scoreless second period, first-year forward Hillary Sterling intercepted a RIT breakout pass from the right boards and walked in alone before firing a shot from mid-ice between the dots for a 3-1 Saints lead, 1:48 into the third.
- St. Lawrence added a late pair of goals in the game's final 1:35. The first was an empty netter by sophomore forward Gabi Jones, while the game's final goal was deflected in midair from the crease area by graduate student forward Skylar Podvey with13 ticks left on the clock.
GAME NOTES
- Solinger's goal gave her two in the last four games.
- Junior goaltender Taylor Liotta finished with 25 saves after having to leave the contest for 2:45 due to an equipment issue.
- Each team had three power-play opportunities with RIT cashing in on one and the Tigers' penalty-killing units perfect on the night.
- Roland's assist gave her sole possession of the team scoring lead with seven points.
- Maloney's assist tied her with freshman defender Bailey Kehl for the team lead with four.
