Women’s Hockey drops 6-1 loss to Mercyhurst

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT sophomore forward Emma Roland gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead, but it was Mercyhurst who responded with six unanswered goals to take the CHA contest 6-1, Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • RIT sophomore forward Emma Roland staked the Tigers to a 1-0 lead 3:59 into the first period. Roland entered the Laker zone on the left side after receiving a pass from freshman forward Athena Vasdani. Her first shot was blocked, but then quickly fired a second shot that found the back of the net. The play started after sophomore defender Mia Tsilemos blocked a Mercyhurst shot deep in the Tigers' defensive end.
  • Mercyhurst tied the contest at 1-1 when graduate student forward Kristy Pidgeon snapped a shot from the high slot after receiving a drop pass from freshman defender Sydney Pedersen with 92 seconds to go in the first.
  • The Lakers added a pair of goals in the second period to take a 3-1 lead with one coming 6:04 into the period and the other with 4:27 left in the period.
  • Mercyhurst accounted for three more goals in the third period in a six minute span in the latter half of the period with the first and last at even strength and the middle marker on the power play.
GAME NOTES
  • Roland's tally gave her sole possession of the team goal lead with five.
  • Sophomore goaltender Emma Stephen saw her first action of the season and recorded four saves in relief of freshman goaltender Sarah Coe, who registered 49 saves in 54:25.
  • Senior defender Taylor Sims had a team-high six blocks and her 48 on the season continue to lead the team.

RIT hosts St. Lawrence on Tuesday, Nov. 23 at 6 p.m. at the Gene Polisseni Center. The game was rescheduled from Oct. 21.
