Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Women’s Hockey defeated by No. 3 Minnesota, 7-1

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – RIT junior goaltender Taylor Liotta set a Tiger record with 65 saves against No. 3 Minnesota in a 7-1 loss, Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Minnesota got four goals in a 5:06 span to account for all of the first two period's scoring with two late goals in the first and two early goals in the second.
  • Junior forward Hana Solinger buried a loose puck in the crease to bring the Tigers within four at 5-1, 4:45 into the third period. Senior forward Jordan Marchese started the play by intercepting a Minnesota Breakout pass on the left boards. Marchese sent a pass down low below the goaline to senior forward Abby Davies on a give and go, and then got a shot off in tight before Solinger finished the play.
  • The Gophers added a pair in the third period to complete the scoring.
GAME NOTES
  • Liotta's 65 save performance topped Ali Binnington's previous save record as the best in RIT Division I play. Binnington stopped 62 pucks and was named the tournament MVP in the Tigers' 2014 CHA championship, 2-1, double overtime victory on March 8 in Erie, Pa. The junior goaltender's performance was the fourth-best in CHA history and the most saves in the conference this season.
  • Liotta was one save shy of matching Tiger goaltender Laurie Davis' 66 saves against Clarkson on Dec. 10, 1982 in Division III play.
  • Marchese and Solinger led the Tigers with two shots on goal each.
  • Marchese's five blocks were a team high.
