ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT senior outside hitters
Katie Hobler and
Taylor Higgins notched 13 kills apiece to lead the Tigers to a 3-0 (25-23, 25-11, 25-13) sweep of visiting Union, Friday, in Liberty League women's volleyball action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- RIT opened a 14-11 lead in the first set, but Union responded with a 5-0 run to build a 16-14 edge. The Tigers scored two-straight points, but the Dutchwomen put together another 5-0 run to lead, 21-16. RIT re-tied the game with its own 5-0 run, started by two Higgins kills and finished by three-consecutive service aces by freshman defensive specialist Hailey Blixt. Tied, 23-23, back-to-back kills by Higgins and Hobler completed the Tiger comeback.
- RIT opened a 7-4 second period lead before a decisive 9-2 run, featuring two kills apiece by Higgins, senior middle blocker Calista Gasper and Hobler, yielded a 16-6 Tiger edge which grew to as many as 14 on two occasions down the stretch.
- RIT used an 8-0 run to open a 10-3 third-set lead. The Tiger lead grew to as many as nine on multiple occasions as RIT put the match away.
MATCH NOTES
- Higgins had 12 kills on 17 swings without making an error through the first two sets, finishing the night with a .522 attack percentage.
- Freshman setter Sydney Neff totaled 34 assists while leading RIT to a .378 team hitting percentage.
- Senior Kianna Walker was credited with a match-high 11 digs.
