HOUGHTON, N.Y. – RIT senior outside hitter
Taylor Higgins totaled 17 kills and 14 digs to lead the Tigers to a 3-1 (25-22, 25-19, 23-25, 25-21) victory over visiting Skidmore, Saturday, in Liberty League women's volleyball play.
RIT stayed unbeated (4-0) in the conference while extending its winning streak to eight.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- RIT broke a 5-5 tie in the first with a 7-1 run capped by two Higgins kills sandwiched around a pair of service aces by sophomore defensive specialist Hailey Blixt for a 12-6 edge. Skidmore later came back within two, 20-18, but the Tigers scored four of the next five points to put the set out of reach.
- RIT fell behind, 5-3, early in the second, but scored seven-straight points, including two Higgins kills, to forge a 1-5 lead. The Thoroughbreds answered with a 7-1 run of their own to take a 12-11 lead. Tied, 18-18, RIT scored seven of the final eight points to open a two-set lead.
- Skidmore came back from an early 9-2 third-set deficit to tie the score, 13-13. Tied, 18-18, the Thoroughbreds rode a 6-1 run to a 24-19 lead to put the set out of reach and extend the match.
- RIT forged an 18-14 lead in the fourth set, but Skidmore fought back within one, 20-19. A Higgins kill started a four-point run which yielded six match points for RIT, eventually finished by a Higgins.
MATCH NOTES
- RIT held Skidmore to a .188 attack percentage.
- Senior outside hitter Katie Hobler finished with 16 kills.
- Senior libero Kiana Walker compiled 22 digs.
