ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (1-6-0, 1-6-0 CHA) women's hockey team was defeated 5-1 by Lindenwood University (2-6-0, 2-6-0 CHA) in College Hockey America action from the Gene Polisseni Center Monday afternoon.
Shots were 23-22 in favor of Lindenwood. The Tigers went 1-for-9 with the extra skater, while Lindenwood was 0-for-4 on the power play. The Lions took nine penalties for 18 minutes, while the Tigers had four penalties for eight minutes.
Sophomore forward
Hana Solinger (Chatsworth, Ontario/Cambridge Rivulettes) tallied her second goal of the season Monday, while senior
Tori Haywood (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary's Catholic) had an assist. Senior goaltender
Jessi O'Leary (Woodstock, New Brunswick/Notre Dame Hounds) got the start in net for RIT, making 16 saves. Freshman
Emma Stephen (Sherwood Park, Alberta) saw her first collegiate minutes Monday, making two saves in the final 9:39 of the third period.
Thea Jorgensen led Lindenwood with two goals, while Casey Adimey and Bailey Coyne each had two assists. Annika Asplundh got the win in net for the Lions, making 21 saves.
Jorgensen gave the Lions a 1-0 lead on her goal at 12:37 of the first period. Solinger tied the game with her power play goal off an assist from Haywood at 8:49 of the second period. Solinger took a pass from Haywood and beat Asplundh with a one-timer into the corner tying the game at 1-1.
Less than four minutes later Goff's goal gave the Lions the lead back at 2-1, and tacked on three third-period goals to make it a 5-1 final score.
The Tigers return to action on Friday, Jan. 15 when they host CHA foe No. 10 Penn State University at 6 p.m. from the Gene Polisseni Center.
