FORT MEYERS, Fla. – The RIT softball team earned a 4-3 victory over Kenyon and a 6-3 decision opposite Anna Maria, Tuesday, at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic at the Century Link Sports Complex.
RIT 4, KENYON 3
Sophomore designated player Haley Czerwinski (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) finished 2 for 4, including a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning in the 4-3 victory over Kenyon (OH).
- RIT broke open a scoreless game with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Sophomore first baseman Brianna Bilich (Penryn, CA/Del Oro) knocked a two-run double before sophomore third baseman Jennifer Vickery (Gloversville, NY/Gloversville) brought her home with a two-out triple.
- Kenyon got on the board with a run in the top of the fifth and later tied the game with two runs in the top of the seventh. However, junior centerfielder Samm Carroll (Woodbridge, NJ/Woodbridge) led the bottom half of the inning with a walk, before junior second baseman Julia Vaillancourt (Braintree, MA/Braintree) reached on a fielding error by the Kenyon second baseman. Czerwinski brought Carroll across with a single for the deciding run.
- Senior Torie Adler (West Chester, PA/B. Reed Henderson) scattered eight hits while only allowing two earned runs and striking out four to earn the complete-game win.
RIT 6, ANNA MARIA 3
Freshman designated player Alexis Smith (Ronkonkoma, NY/Connetquot) went 3 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI while junior centerfielder Samm Carroll (Woodbridge, NJ/Woodbridge) was 1 for 3 with a two-run double while scoring two runs to defeat Anna Maria (MA), 6-3.
- Carroll led the game off with a walk and came around two batters later on a double by freshman designated player Alexis Smith (Ronkonkoma, NY/Connetquot).
- RIT plated three runs during a two-out rally in the second inning. Carroll scored sophomore second baseman Abcde Cortinas (San Antonio, TX/Highlands) with an RBI single to left center before sophomore left fielder Haley Czerwinski (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) knocked a two-run single to right center.
- Sophomore right fielder Sarina Alexander (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt) led the sixth inning off with a single up the middle and later came around to score on a throwing error by the Anna Maria shortstop off the bat of Carroll.
- The Amcats responded with three runs in the bottom of the sixth, but the Tigers added one more in the seventh on a RBI single by sophomore first baseman Brianna Bilich (Penryn, CA/Del Oro) to put the game out of reach.
- Freshman Rachel Jowers (Whigham, GA/Cairo) earned the complete-game victory in her collegiate debut, allowing four hits while striking out six.
