Women's Hockey ties Syracuse University 2-2 in defensive showcase

Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT (9-16-3, 2-11-1) Senior goaltender Terra Lanteigne (Hatchet Lake, Nova Scotia/Charles P. Allen) recorded 61 saves while Freshman forward Jaymee Nolan (Dublin, Ontario/London Devilettes) tallied two goals as the Tigers tied visiting Syracuse University (10-16-2, 8-4-2), 2-2, in College Hockey America (CHA) play, Saturday from the Gene Polisseni Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first period ended scoreless as the Tigers' defense was able to fend off an aggressive period by Syracuse. Lanteigne finished the period with 24 saves as Syracuse outshot RIT 24-10.
  • Syracuse pushed ahead with 18.2 seconds left in the second period after a long stalemate. Junior forward Emma Polaski redirected a deep shot from Freshman defenseman Mae Batherson between Lanteigne's legs for the goal.
  • Lanteigne finished the second period with 41 total saves and neither of the teams were able to capitalize on the two power play opportunities that they both had.
  • RIT responded in the third period as Nolan scored a pair of back-to-back goals. She scored her first of the night by rebounding her own shot into the net with 10:25 left. She was assisted by Freshman forward Rachel Goff (Naperville, IL/Chicago Mission) and Sophomore forward Hunter Barnett (Caledon, Ontario/Mississauga Jr. Chiefs).
  • Nolan recorded her second goal a little more than a minute later on a power-play as she reflected a baseline shot from Senior defenseman Logan Land (Turkey Point, Ontario/Holy Trinity Catholic) into the net. Before Land, there was an additional assist by Senior defenseman Taylor Baker (Toronto, Ontario/North Toronto Collegiate Institute).
  • Syracuse tied the game with 3:46 left in the third period on a power-play goal from Sophomore forward Abby Moloughney off assists from Polaski and Senior defenseman Lindsay Eastwood.
  • Lanteigne finished the third period with 59 saves to match her career high.
  • Neither team scored in overtime to lead to the final score of 2-2.
 GAME NOTES
  • Lanteigne recorded a career high 61 saves (1 shy of RIT Division 1 record and 5 shy of the CHA single game record).
  • Syracuse finished with a 63-29 shot advantage.
  • Nolan now leads the Tigers with 30 points this season.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Tigers will return home next weekend to host Penn State University on Friday (Feb. 14) at 2:00 p.m. from the Gene Polisseni Center.
