RIT men's track and field finish fourth at 2020 Liberty League Indoor Track and Field Championship

ROCHESTER, NY -- Jack Smith (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) and Devante Marshall (Gloversville, NY/Mayfield) each won indivdual titles as the RIT men's indoor track and field team finished fourth at the 2020 Liberty League Indoor Track and Field Championship from the Gordon Field House. Smith won the decathlon, while Marshall brought home the league title in the triple jump. The Tigers finished fourth out of six teams with a team score of 98.5 points, while Ithaca College won the 2020 Liberty League Championship with a score of 192 points.

Friday, senior Reid Kovacs placed third in the 5,000-meters, finishing in a time of 15:10.05. Andrew Chabot (Campton, NH/Plymouth Regional) (4:26.56) and Jason Ziskind (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) (4:28.97) finished seventh and ninth, respectively in the mile. In relay action, the team of Chabot, Jeremy Saluzzi, Zachery Thesier and Zaven Kazandjian placed third in the distance medley relay, finishing in a time of 10:38.25.

Marshall led a octet of Tigers to finish in the top-10 in Friday's long jump competition. Marshall finished third (6.71 meters), while John O'Connell placed sixth (6.68 meters). Raphael Abel (/) placed seventh (6.60 meters), Noah Flynn (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post) placed eighth (6.59 meters) and Ben Essa placed ninth (6.53 meters). Matthew Funicelli (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) placed third in the shot put (15.42 meters), while Zachery Darling was sixth (13.96 meters) and Kent Kellar placed seventh (13.89 meters). William Phifer (Pittsburgh, PA/Chartiers Valley) placed sixth in the pole vault (3.92 meters).

Saturday, Smith was a winner in the pentathlon with a winning score of 4,695 points. He won the 60-meter dash (7.34 seconds), pole vault (4.72 meters), and the long jump (6.71 meters) to win the title. Marshall won the triple jump with leap of 14.15 meters. Tyler Hulse finished fourth in the high jump (1.96 meters)

Dustin Van Kirk (Canton, CT/Canton) (8.76 seconds), Zack Wigent (Fariport, NY/Fairport) (8.92 seconds) and Matthew Doerner (9.25 seconds) placed fourth, fifth and eighth, respectively, in the 60-meter hurdles. Matthew Funicelli (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) placed third in the shot put (15.42 meters), while Zachery Darling (13.96 meters) and Kellar (13.89 meters)were sixth and seventh. Darling (17.13 meters) and Funicelli (16.52 meters) placed fourth and fifth in the 35 lb. weight throw.

In relay action, the team of Saluzzi, Skakal, Braden Cott and Zachery Thesier placed third in the 4x400-meter relay, finishing in a time of 3:25.70.

RIT returns to action at the Atlantic Regional Championship on March 6-7, hosted by Nazareth College.
