PITTSFORD, NY -- Senior Dawson Tate and sophomore
Ryan Rosenblum (Limerick, PA/Spring-Ford) each tallied five points as the No. 5 RIT (3-0 men's lacrosse team defeated Nazareth College (1-1) 21-10 in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon.
Shots were 54-43 in favor of RIT, while the Golden Flyers held a slight 34-33 ground ball advantage and won 17-of-33 face-offs. The Tigers went 26-of-32 on clearing attempts, and 1-for-3 with the man advantage.
Junior goalie
Drew Hutchison (Otonabee, Ontario/The Hill Academy) made his first collegiate start Wednesday, picking up his first career win, making a career-high 17 saves in the effort.
Jimmy Spillane (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley) won nine draws, while
Nick Montemorano (Victor, NY/Victor) and
Ryan Agedal (LaFayette, NY/LaFayette) led the Tigers with five ground balls apiece.
Zach Gagnon (Port Jefferson, NY/Comsewogue) caused two turnovers.
Tait and Rosenblum each finished withtwo goals and three assists to pace a balanced RIT offensive attack.
Ryan Barnable (Whitby, Ontario/Donald A. Wilson),
Ryan Tandy (Montrose, NY/Hendrick-Hudson) and
Luke Pilcher (Oakville, ON/Everest Academy) each scored three goals, and
Marley Angus (Oakville, Ontario/Holy Trinity) and
Alex Shuster (New Albany, OH/St. Charles Prep) each scored two goals.
Quinn Commandant (Rockwood, Ontario/The Kiski School) and
Cameron Gebhardt (Fairport, NY/Fairport) each tallied a goal and an assist for the Tigers.
Jeremy Jacob led Nazareth with three goals, while Jon Roth and Clifford Pollard each tallied a goal and an assist. Eric Almquist took the loss in net for the Golden Flyers, making 14 saves.
RIT led 3-0 early and 6-1 after the first quarter. Tait scored twice in the quarter, while Rosenblum, Barnable, Angus and Shuster each tallied. The Tigers ran off 10 straight goals, including the first seven of the second quarter, taking a 13-1 lead on Tandy's goal with 6:37 to play in the half. Nazareth scored three late goals to make it 14-4 RIT at halftime.
Each team scored three times in the third quarter. Barnable, Angus and Gebhardt for RIT, while Colin McElligot, Pollard and Roth, scored for the Golden Flyers. Pilcher scored all three of his goals in the fourth quarter, while
Andrew Doktor (Rochester, NY/Eastridge) tacked on a fourth to make it a 21-10 final.
RIT returns to action on Saturday, March 7, when the Tigers begin Liberty League play against Clarkson University at 12 p.m. on RIT's Turf Field.
