No. 6 RIT Women's Basketball loses at No. 3 St. Lawrence in first round of Liberty League Tournament

CANTON, NY -- The No. 6 RIT (11-15) women's basketball team was defeated 83-56 at No. 3 St. Lawrence University (18-8) in the first round of the 2020 Liberty League Tournament Tuesday evening.

Senior Brooke Stanley (Minnetonka, MN/Benilde-St. Margaret's) led RIT with 22 points. Sabrina Wolfe (Troy, NY/Troy) finished with 13 points and nine rebounds for the Tigers, who shot 31.7 percent from the floor. Kaleesha Joseph (Somerville, MA/Prospect Hill Academy Charter) led RIT with eight rebounds, while Taylor Signor (Hopkinton, NH/Hopkinton) chipped in eight points off the bench.

Ava McCann led St. Lawrence with 21 points, making 7-of-10 from beyond the arc. Olivia Barringer chipped in 15 points off the bench for the Saints, while Katie Fredericks grabbed 11 rebounds to go along with nine points.

RIT scored the first six points of the game, and opened up a 9-2 lead on a three-pointer from Stanley with 6:37 to play in the first quarter. Later in the quarter, Stanley gave the Tigers a 12-8 lead when she converted an old fashioned three-point play with 3:14 remaining in the quarter. The Tigers went scoreless over the final 3:14 of the quarter, as St. Lawrence closed on a 16-3 run to lead 18-12.

The Saints built their lead to nine points midway through the second quarter, but a Signor three with 4:36 to play in the half cut the St. Lawrence lead to 26-20. The Saints took a 10-point lead late in the quarter, and led 35-24 at halftime.

St. Lawrence outscored RIT 48-32 in the second half, including 25-18 in the third quarter, shooting 52.7 percent from the floor. The Tigers finish their season with 11 wins.
