ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT sophomore forward Hunter Barnett (Caledon, Ontario/Mississauga Jr. Chiefs) notched a career-high four points on two goals and two assists while freshman forward Rachel Goff (Naperville, IL/Chicago Mission) added a goal and two assists to lead the Tigers past visiting Penn State, 4-2, in College Hockey America (CHA) action, Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- RIT got on the board with 16:10 left in the first period. Junior forward Stella Haberman (Golden Valley, MN/Minnesota Whitecaps) skated a counter-attack down the left wing and fed Barnett with a short cross in front. Barnett scored the one-timer inside the right post from close range.
- Haberman came up with a loose puck in the Tiger zone during a Penn State power play and zoomed down the left boards to feed Barnett for almost a carbon-copy of the first goal.
- Penn State made it a one-goal game with 1:13 left in the first after junior defender Morgan Rolph scored a power-play blast from beyond the top of the right face-off circle.
- The Nittany Lions tied the score with 7:54 left in the second period after senior forward Brooke Madsen pounced on a rebound and scored a power-play tally inside the left post.
- However, the Tigers answered less than three minutes later with a power play goal of their own after junior defender Ellie Larson (Hutchinson, MN/Hutchinson Tigers) curled a shot from the top of the right face-off circle through two defenders and inside the far post with 5:23 on the clock.
- Haberman later skated a puck out of the Tigers zone and hit Barnett for a left-wing shot off the Nittany Lion goalie's pads. Goff jammed the loose puck inside the left post with 10:48 left in the third period.
