ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Rochester Institute of Technology junior forward
Will Calverley (Scarborough, Ontario) had a goal and an assist, but it was visiting Long Island University earning a 4-3 victory, Friday, at the Polisseni Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Calverley scored on his own rebound from close range to open the scoring with 7:14 left in the first period.
- Freshman forward Cody Laskosky (New Norway, Alberta) caused a turnover on the forecheck during a Shark power-play opportunity and scored a short-handed goal to make it a 2-0 Tiger lead with 16:42 left in the second.
- LIU scored the next four goals, including three unanswered in the second period, to build a 4-2 lead early in the third period.
- Senior forward Zack Bross scored on a clean wrist shot in the middle of the slot with 15:13 on the second-period clock. Freshman forward Gustav Miller put back his own rebound with 10:24 on the clock before senior defeneseman Mitch Meek put the Shark on top with a wrist shot from the top of the zone with 6:47 left in the period.
- Bross finished a two-on-one rush off a feed from freshman forward Zach Quinn 1:33 into the third period for a 4-2 Shark lead.Â
- RIT senior forward Nick Bruce (Fall River, Nova Scotia/Johnstown Tomahawks) made it a one-goal game off a feed across the crease from Calverley, but the Tigers couldn't find the equalizer over the final 12:03 of regulation in the loss.
GAME NOTES
- Calverley's team-leading fifth goal of the season was also the 25th of his career in 75 appearances in a Tiger sweater.Â
- Senior goalie Logan Drackett (Calgary, Alberta) made 22 saves in his 90th career start.
- RIT finished with a 36-26 shot advantage.Â
- Junior forward Kobe Walker (Lloydminster, Alberta) played his 70th career game while sophomore forward Elijah Gonsalves (Scarborough, Ontario) made his 40th appearance for RIT.
- Freshman defenseman Dimitri Mikrogiannakis (Aurora, Ontario)Â notched his first career point with an assist on Laskosky's goal.
