Women's hockey falls at home to Mercyhurst

ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT (0-2-0, 0-2-0 CHA) women's ice hockey team scored first, but was defeated 2-1 by Mercyhurst University (1-0-0, 1-0-0 CHA) in CHA action from the Gene Polisseni Center Thursday afternoon.  
 
Shots were 27-24 in favor of Mercyhurst. Each team went 0-for-2 on the power play. Jessi O'Leary (Woodstock, New Brunswick/Notre Dame Hounds) made 25 saves in net for the Tigers, while Jenna Silvonen got the win of the Lakers making 23 stops.

Tori Haywood (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary's Catholic) scored her first goal of 2020-21, while Ellie Larson (Hutchinson, Minn./ ) and Emma Roland (Williamsville, N.Y.) each had an assist.

Sara Boucher scored two goals for the Lakers, while Megan Korzack, Rachel Marmen and Emily Pinto each had an assist.

RIT led 1-0 after the first period on a goal from Tori Haywood (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary's Catholic). She and Ellie Larson (Hutchinson, Minn./ ) broke into the Mercyhurst zone 2-v-1. Larson fed Haywood with a pass and Haywood one-timed a shot into the top shelf to give the Tigers the lead.

Shots were 8-7 in favor of the Lakers. O'Leary stopped all eight shots she faced in the first period, while Jenna Silvonen made six saves for the Lakers.

Mercyhurst came back to score twice in the second period. Sara Boucher scored each of the Lakers goals in the second. Her first came at 8:18 of the period, while her second came at 11:17.

RIT fired six shots in the third period. The Tigers best chance came late in the period. Jordan Marchese (Mississauga, Ontario/Brampton Canadettes) wound up with the puck. She fired a shot through traffic that just missed the far corner. 
 
These two teams will play again on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 3 p.m. in Erie, Pa.
