ROCHESTER, NY -- Freshman
Jaymee Nolan (Dublin, Ontario/London Devilettes) tallied two goals as the RIT (8-10-2) women's hockey team completed the sweep with a 3-0 win over Sacred Heart University (8-10-0) Saturday afternoon from the Gene Polisseni Center.
Shots were 46-19 in favor of RIT. The Tigers went 0-for-4 on the power play, and held Sacred Heart scoreless in its lone power play chance. The Pioneers took four penalties for eight minutes, while the Tigers took just one penalty. Nolan finished with a pair of goals, while
Terra Lanteigne (Hatchet Lake, Nova Scotia/Charles P. Allen) picked up the shut out, making 19 saves.
Christa Stefanopoulos (Pierrefonds, Quebec/Dawson College) and
Kylie Lalonde (Arnprior, Ontario/Ottawa Lady Senators) each had an assist, and
Abby Davies (Ashton, Ontario/Ottawa Lady Senators) tallied a goal.
After a scoreless first period, RIT took a 1-0 lead on Nolan's first of the game and sixth of the season at 2:51 of the second period. Stefanopoulos fed Nolan with a pass from behind the Sacred Heart net, and Nolan buried the shot to give the Tigers the lead.
Nolan tallied her second of the game at 4:47 of the third period when she intercepted a Sacred Heart clearing attempt and beat Frankie Sanchez with a shot into the top corner for her seventh goal of the season. Davies poked a loose puck in front of the Sacred Heart goal at 5:40 of the third period to make it a 3-0 final.
RIT returns to action on Friday, Jan. 10, at home versus CHA foe Robert Morris University at 2 p.m. from the Gene Polisseni Center.
