Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Women's Hockey earns 3-2 OT comeback win versus Sacred Heart

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT senior defender Logan Land (Turkey Point, Ontario/Holy Trinity Catholic) scored the overtime game-winning goal to lead the Tigers to a 3-2 comeback victory over Sacred Heart, Friday afternoon at the Polisseni Center.

RIT trailed, 2-0, with under nine minutes left in the third period before junior defender Ellie Larson (Hutchinson, MN/Hutchinson Tigers) and freshman forward Jaymee Nolan (Dublin, Ontario/London Devilettes) scored back-to-back tallies to tie the game with 3:05 left in regulation and force overtime.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Sacred Heart senior forward Victoria Grimmer skated down the right boards and fed sophomore forward Samantha Shoebottom in the slot for a shot through senior goalie Terra Lanteigne's (Hatchet Lake, Nova Scotia/Charles P. Allen) pads 3:02 into the contest.
  • The Pioneers took a two-goal lead with 5:26 left in the second. Shoebottom won a faceoff to the left of the Tiger goal back to sophomore defender Kelly Solak, who scored on a long shot through traffic past a screened Lanteigne.
  • RIT got on the board with 8:26 left in the third period. Sophomore forward Abby Davies (Ashton, Ontario/Ottawa Lady Senators) dug her own rebound off the Pioneer crease and flipped a pass to the top of the left face-off circle where Larson scored on a one-timer that made its way through a crowded crease.
  • Less than six minutes later, Larson intercepted a Sacred Heart clearing attempt along the right boards and fed Nolan in the slot. Nolan slid a short pass to freshman forward Christa Stefanopoulos (Pierrefonds, Quebec/Dawson College) on her left, where Stefanopoulos sent a quick return pass to Nolan for a short equalizer.
  • A minute and a half into overtime, Nolan won a faceoff to the left of the Pioneer goal back to Land on the left wing boards. Land zipped a shot that made its way through a crowd and inside the right post for the deciding goal with 3:19 on the clock.
GAME NOTES
  • RIT finished the game with a 41-26 shot advantage.
  • Lanteigne totaled 24 saves while holding the Pioneers scoreless over the final 27:17 of play.
