BUFFALO, N.Y. – Seven goal scorers led RIT to a 7-4 victory at Canisius in Atlantic Hockey action, Friday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Canisius got on the board first after Nick Hutchison wrapped around the Tiger goal and threw a puck in front of the left post that deflected in with 14:49 on the clock.
- Junior forward Alden Dupuis (Edmonton, Alberta/Bonnyville Pontiacs) evened the game less than five minutes later with junior defenseman Regan Seiferling (Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan/Yorkton Terriers) in the box for tripping. Dupuis intercepted a pass in front of the Golden Griffin crease and scored from close range with 10:24 on the clock for his second short-handed tally of the season.
- RIT took a 2-1 lead after Seiferling jumped out of the penalty box and took a long feed in the neutral zone from Dupuis to score untouched with 8:28 on the clock.
- The Tigers scored the next three goals to build a 5-1 lead with 9:59 left in the second period. Freshman forward Elijah Gonsalves (Scarborough, Ontario/Wellington Dukes) finished a scrum in front of the Golden Griffin crease for a power play tally at 17:37 before senior defenseman Chris McKay (Edmonton, Alberta/Sherwood Park Crusaders) scored on a shot from the right face-off dot through a crowd at 14:37. Sophomore forward Jake Joffe (Toronto, Ontario/Toronto Jr. Canadiens) scored on a short tip inside the right post to complete the run.
- Canisius scored twice in the final minutes of the second period, taking advantage of a Tiger offensive zone turnover with 2:08 on the clock before scoring on a rebound in the slot with 37 seconds left.
- Freshman forward Colton Trumbla (Winnipeg, Manitoba/St. Michael's Buzzers) cleaned up a loose puck in front to put the Tigers up, 6-3, with 15:37 left in the third.
- The Golden Griffins got one back following an RIT penalty with 3:34 left in regulation, scoring on a 6-on-4 opportunity with their goalie pulled. However, senior forward Shawn Cameron (Sherbrooke, Quebec/Cumberland Grads) responded off a neutral zone turnover with 1:20 left to put the game away.
GAME NOTES
- Junior goalie Logan Drackett (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Canucks) finished with 32 stops for his eighth 30-plus save game of the season.
- Cameron scored his team-leading 12th goal of the season.
- Dupuis tied a program record with his fifth career short-handed tally, tying Simon Lambert for the most by a Tiger in the Division I era.
- Joffe has six goals on 12 shots this season.
