CANTON, NY -- The RIT (5-10, 2-6 Liberty League) men's basketball team was narrowly defeated 78-74 at St. Lawrence University (5-9, 3-5 Liberty League) in Liberty League action from Canton, N.Y. Friday evening.
Cobey Adekanbi (Bloomfield, CT/Loomis Chafee) led RIT with a career-high 21 points to go along with 15 rebounds.
Keegan Ocorr (Fairport, NY/Charles Finney) tallied 15 points, while
Curtis Nesbit (Woodbridge, NJ/Woodbridge) chipped in 13 points for the Tigers who shot 42.4 percent from the floor on 28-of-66 shooting. RIT made 9-of-26 from beyond the arc, and went 9-of-19 from the foul line.
Trent Adamson led St. Lawrence with 21 points. Andrew Geschickter tallied 20 points for the Saints who shot 50.0 percent from the floor.
RIT kept the game close throughout, trailing 39-38 at halftime. In the second half, St. Lawrence built a 54-45 lead on a Geschickter bucket with 14:33 to play. Later in the half, the Saints took a 60-50 lead, but the Tigers responded with a 9-0 run, cutting the Saints lead to 60-59 on an Adekanbi dunk. Nesbit tied the score at 67-67 on his three-pointer off an assist from
Chuck Okehie (Owings Mills, MD/The McDonough School) with 5:23 remaining.
Michael Young (Brookly, NY/Nazareth Regional) tied the score at 69-69 late in the game. Cale Sargent sealed the win for St. Lawrence with some clutch free throws in the closing seconds.
RIT returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 25, when the Tigers face Clarkson University at 4 p.m. from Potsdam, N.Y.
