Men's basketball falls at home to Rensselaer Friday evening

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (4-9, 1-5 Liberty League) men's basketball team was defeated 72-59 by Rensselaer (11-2, 6-0 Liberty League) in Liberty League action from Clark Gymnasium Friday evening.

RIT shot 50.0 percent from the floor on 25-of-50 shooting. The Tigers made 5-of-15 from beyond the arc, and went 4-of-9 from the foul line. Keegan Ocorr (Fairport, NY/Charles Finney) led the Tigers with 14 points. Curtis Nesbit (Woodbridge, NJ/Woodbridge) and Kevin Ryan (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) each scored 12 points, while Will Atkinson (Orchard Park, NY/Canisius) chipped in eight points.

Mason Memmelaar led Rensselaer with 11 points and eight rebounds. Jonny Angbazo tallied 15 points off the bench, while Will Rubin chipped in 13 points. Patrick Mahoney tallied 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Engineers who shot 47.1 percent.

RIT led 35-24 at halftime, shooting 61.5 percent from the floor on 16-of-26 shooting from the floor. RPI began the second half with a 7-1 spurt to cut the RIT lead to five points. Rubin gave the Engineers the lead for good with his free throw with 8:07 to play. The Tigers were outscored 48-24 in the second half by the Engineers.

RIT returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 18, when the Tigers host Bard College at 4 p.m. from Clark Gymnasium.
