GENEVA, NY -- The RIT women's tennis team had a strong showing at the 2019 Mary Hosking Invitational hosted by William Smith College.
Kirsten Auble (Portland, OR/Sunset) and
Julianne Ho (Scarsdale, NY/Edgemont) each advanced to the semifinals in their respective singlesĀ flights, while Auble and
Kristen Zablonski (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) advanced to the semifinals in "A" Doubles.
Saturday, Auble defeated Grace Klomp from SUNY Geneseo 8-5 in the first round in "B" Singles, and went on to defeat Abbey Reinhart from the University of Rochester, 8-5 in the quarterfinals. She was defeated 8-3 in the semifinals by Savannah Roberts from Hamilton College on Sunday.
Ho was an 8-1 winner over Gretchen Ayoub from SUNY Geneseo in the first round in "D" Singles, Saturday, and advanced to the semifinals with an 8-2 win over Ibadat Javed from St. Lawrence in the quarterfinals. She was defeated by Krithi Krishna from St. Lawrence, 9-7 in the semifinals.
Zablonski and
Shayna Ginster (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) each advanced to the quarterfinals in the consolation round in "A" Singles. Zablonski was defeated by Maggie Bonomo from William Smith,8-4 on Sunday, while Ginster defeated Alexandra Dyszewski from Ithaca, 8-3, but lost to Bonomo, 8-3 in the consolation semifinal.
In doubles action, the team of Auble and Zablonski defeated the duo of Becca Ingber and Savannah Roberts from Hamilton, 8-5 in the first round on Saturday. They went on to defeat Rebecca Andrews and Zoe Davis from Ithaca, 8-1 in the quarterfinals. Sunday, Auble and Zablonski was defeated by Rola AbouZeina and Sravya Gudipudi from The University of Rochester Sunday, 8-2 in the semifinals.
Saturday, Ho and Mia Hoffbauer advanced to the quarterfinals in the consolation round in "B" Doubles. They defeated Cate Gluchowski and Natalia Krol from SUNY Geneseo, 8-6 in the consolation semifinals, but lost to Rachel Kostival and Sarah Sposito from Ithaca, 8-3 in the consolation finals.
RIT returns to action on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 14-15, at St. Lawrence University.
