EDWARDSVILLE, PA – The RIT (2-1-0) women's soccer team defeated Wilkes University (1-1-1) 2-1 on the road Saturday afternoon.
Courtney McHale (Newton, NJ/Newton) tallied the game-winner in the 81st minute for the Tigers.
Shots were 12-8 in favor of RIT, who took eight corner kicks to one for Wilkes.
Alyssa Salls (Plattsburgh, NY/Plattsburgh) picked up the win in net for the Tigers, making two saves. Samantha Cecere took the loss for Wilkes, making four saves.
RIT grabbed a 1-0 lead on a goal in the 40th minute.
Madison Corso (Honolulu, HI/Kaiser) fed
Abbey Saia (Monroe, CT/Masuk) with a service, and Saia scored on a shot into the right corner for her first goal of the season.
Wilkes tied the game on a goal by Emily Bidelspach in the 59th minute. She fired a shot from 20 yards out that deflected off an RIT defender and into the net tying the score at 1-1.
With time running out in regulation, McHale took a pass from
Piper Zimmerman (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) inside the Wilkes penalty box, and fired home a shot to give RIT a 2-1 lead.
RIT returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 13, for the Tigers home opener against SUNY Geneseo. Kick-off is 4 p.m. at Tiger Stadium.
