POTSDAM, NY -- The RIT (5-3-0, 1-1-0 Liberty League) women's soccer team defeated Clarkson University (7-3-1, 1-2-0 Liberty League) 3-1 Saturday afternoon in Liberty League action from Hantz Turf Field. First-year
Christine Cataldo-Smith (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) tallied two goals and five points to pace the Tigers offense.
Shots were 12-8 in favor of RIT, while the Tigers took four corner kicks to two for the Golden Knights.
Alyssa Salls (Plattsburgh, NY/Plattsburgh) picked up the win in net for RIT, making two saves. Elyse Green took the loss for Clarkson, making three stops.
Abbey Saia (Monroe, CT/Masuk) gave RIT a 1-0 lead on her fifth goal of the season off an assist from Cataldo-Smith in the 29th minute. Cataldo-Smith gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead on her second goal of the season off an assist from
Mia White (Littleton, CO/Rocky Mountain Deaf School) in the 34th minute.
Clarkson pulled back to within a goal in the 35th minute on a Giulia Mahoney goal on an assist from Megan Murphy.
The Tigers put the game away on Cataldo-Smith's second goal of the game in the 86th minute on an assist from
Courtney McHale (Newton, NJ/Newton).
RIT returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 1, when the Tigers play at Nazareth College. Kick-off in Pittsford, NY is 4 p.m.
