Women's soccer goes on the road and beats Nazareth 2-0

PITTSFORD, NY -- The RIT (6-3-0) women's soccer team defeated cross-town rival Nazareth College (5-3-1) 2-0 in non-league action Tuesday afternoon. First-Year Christine Cataldo-Smith (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) scored twice for the Tigers.

RIT out-shot the Golden Flyers 30-6, and had seven corner kicks to one for Nazareth. First-year Darcie Jones (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson West Lawn) picked up her first collegiate win in net for RIT, making four saves. Hannah Miller took the loss for the Golden Flyers, making 11 saves.

Cataldo-Smith gave RIT a 1-0 lead on her goal off an assist from Mia White (Littleton, CO/Rocky Mountain Deaf School) in the 51st minute. White fed Cataldo-Smith with a thru-ball down the channel that she ran onto and scored first-time to give the Tigers the lead. She tallied her second goal in the 54th minute on another pass from White. Cataldo-Smith has now scored in consecutive games, tallying two goals at Clarkson on Saturday.

RIT returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 5, at Bard College. Kick-off from Annandale-on-Hudson, NY is 1 p.m.
