GENEVA, NY -- The RIT (2-5-1, 0-1-0 Liberty League) men's soccer team lost 3-2 at Hobart College (7-2-0, 1-0-0 Liberty League) in the Tigers Liberty League opener Wednesday afternoon.
Shots were even at 12-12, while the Statesmen took four corner kicks to two for the Tigers.
Will Sokol (Branchburg, NJ/Somerville) took the loss in net for RIT, making one save.
Spencer Raymond-Smith (Stow, OH/Stow-Munroe Falls) played the second half for RIT, making two saves. Brian Salazar got the win for Hobart, making five saves.
Hobart struck early, scoring twice in a span of 28 seconds in the fourth minute. Nate Cary gave the Statesmen a 1-0 lead on his goal at 3:29. He made it 2-0 Hobart at 3:59 off an assist from Jack Fell. The Statesmen took a 3-0 lead on a Juan Widoycovich goal in the 26th minute.
RIT scored late in the opening half, cutting the Hobart lead to 3-1 on a
Simon Garno (Hilton, NY/Hilton) goal in the 41st minute off assists from
Nick Simone (Hilton, NY/Hilton) and
Dante DeSisti (Colombo, Sri Lanka/South Lakes).
Mark-Vincent Sansone (Hilton, NY/Aquinas Institute) cut the Hobart lead to 3-2 on his first goal of the season in the 70th minute on assists from Garno and
Ben Frenett (Spencerport, NY/Allendale Columbia). The Tigers had a goal waved off in the 65th minute for offsides. Simone drew the foul driving to the Hobart goal, earning RIT a free-kick from just outside the Hobart penalty box inside the last 10 seconds. Garno took the free kick, but his attempt sailed over the net.
RIT returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 28, when the Tigers host Clarkson University at 1 p.m. on the grass at Tiger Stadium.
