ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (4-2-0) women's soccer team defeated SUNY Fredonia (3-4-0) 2-1 on a sun-drenched Tiger Stadium Saturday afternoon. Senior forward
Abbey Saia (Monroe, CT/Masuk) scored both RIT goals.
Shots were 12-7 in favor of RIT. The Tigers took nine corner kicks to two for the Blue Devils.
Alyssa Salls (Plattsburgh, NY/Plattsburgh) got the win in net for RIT, making two saves. Abbey Monahan took the loss for Fredonia, making seven saves.
Saia gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead on her third goal of the season in the 20th minute. She fired a low shot through traffic from the top of the Fredonia penalty box that found its way into the back of the net. She gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead in the 75th minute.
Mia White (Littleton, CO/Rocky Mountain Deaf School) started the play with a nice drive toward the end-line. She fired a pass to
Christine Cataldo-Smith (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) who fed Saia with a pass, and she scored first-time for her fourth goal of the season and a two-goal RIT lead.
Fredonia got back into the game with a goal in the 77th minute from Gabby Alston off an assist from Suzanna Wojnowski. The Tigers returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 25, when RIT begins Liberty League play against No. 1 William Smith College. Kick-off from Tiger Stadium is 4 p.m.
