ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT (1-1-0) men's soccer team was defeated 5-1 by Buffalo State College (2-0-0) on night two of the 2019 Doug May Memorial Soccer Classic Sunday evening.
Shots were 16-11 in favor of RIT. The Tigers took four corner kicks to one for the Bengals.
Will Sokol (Branchburg, NJ/Somerville) took the loss in net for RIT, making three saves. Andreas Queen got the win for Buffalo State, making five saves.
Theo Pencic scored in the 10th and 14th minutes to give the Bengals an early two-goal edge. Zak Shaibi tallied in 44th minute to make it 3-0 Bengals at halftime.
RIT generated some good scoring chances, especially in the second half.
Josh Price (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) had a shot in the 52nd minute that looked to be headed for the corner, but Queen dove and made the save.
Mark-Vincent Sansone (Hilton, NY/Aquinas Institute) fired a shot from 20 yards out that slipped through Queen's gloves, but hit off the post and away.
Dante DeSisti (Colombo, Sri Lanka/South Lakes) finally broke through for the Tigers, scoring off a loose ball in front of the Buffalo State net in the 78th minute to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Pencic completed the hat-trick for Buffalo State, scoring in the 79th minute, while Zak Shaibi tallied his second of the game in the 84th minute to make it a 5-1 final.
The Tigers return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 4, at Keuka College. Kick-off in Keuka Park, N.Y. is 7 p.m.
