ROCHESTER, NY -- The No. 3 (11-1, 4-0 Liberty League) RIT men's lacrosse team stayed perfect in Liberty League play with a 22-13 win over No. 15 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (9-1, 3-1 Liberty League) Saturday afternoon from sun-drenched RIT Turf Field.
Shots were 51-37 in favor of RIT who won the ground ball battle, 56-37. The Tigers won 25-of-38 face-offs, went 19-of-25 on clearing attempts and 3-for-5 on man-up.
Dawson Tait (Ottawa, Ontario/Mother Teresa) led RIT with a career-high nine points on five goals and four assists.
Shawn Nally (Rochester, NY/McQuaid) finished with two goals, four assists and six points, while
Adam Wolf (Oakville, Ontario/Everest Academy) tallied three goals.
Cam Isaac (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) added a goal and two assists, while
Ryan Tandy (Montrose, NY/Hendrick-Hudson) scored twice.
Walker Hare (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville) got the win in net for RIT, making nine saves in three quarters of play.
Trevor Smyth (Orangeville, Ontario/The Kiski School) had four ground balls to go along with two goals and three points.
Nick Montemorano (Victor, NY/Victor) won 15-of-21 draws and had eight ground balls.
Chandler Allen (Ilderon, Ontario/Medway) caused three turnovers, while
Matt Streit (Penfield, NY/Webster Schroeder) and
Pent Eistrat (Toronto, Ontario/Humberside Collegiate) each caused a pair of turnovers.
Owen Putman led RPI with four goals and five points. Cooper Urban tallied three goals, while JT Kelly tallied two goals, three assists and five points. Brian Doughty took the loss in net for RPI, making 13 saves.
RIT led 8-4 after the first quarter, and 11-5 at halftime. The Tigers scored eight times in the third quarter to lead 19-7 after three quarters of play. Rensselaer tallied six goals in the fourth quarter, but the RIT reserves tallied three goals for the 22-13 final.
With the win, RIT is 29-6 all time versus the Engineers.
RIT returns to action on Wednesday, April 10 when the Tigers host Liberty League rival Ithaca College at 7 p.m. on the RIT's Turf Field
