No. 2 RIT men's lacrosse improves to 5-0 in league play with 18-7 win over Ithaca

ROCHESTER, NY -- The No. 2 RIT (12-1, 5-0 Liberty League) men's lacrosse team improved to 5-0 in Liberty League play with an 18-7 win over Ithaca College (7-4, 3-3 Liberty League) Wednesday evening from RIT's Turf Field. The Tigers outscored the Bombers 11-3 in the second half en route to clinching a playoff berth.

Shots were 55-24 in favor RIT. The Tigers won the ground ball battle 56-26 and were 21-of-27 from the face-off "X". RIT went 14-of-17 on clearing attempts and converted its only man-up chance. Ryan Barnable (Whitby, Ontario/Donald A. Wilson) led the Tigers with six goals and seven points. Adam Wolf (Oakville, Ontario/Everest Academy) tallied four goals and Ryan Tandy (Montrose, NY/Hendrick-Hudson) added three goals.

Walker Hare (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville) picked up the win in net, making four saves. Nick Montemorano (Victor, NY/Victor) won 16-of-20 face-offs and grabbed seven ground balls. Trevor Smyth (Orangeville, Ontario/The Kiski School) had six ground balls, caused four turnovers and had three assists. Chandler Allen (Ilderon, Ontario/Medway) had five ground balls and caused a team-high five turnovers.

Connor Brumfield and Dan Lee each tallied three goals for Ithaca, and Drew Turner tallied a goal and an assist. Connor Thornton took the loss in net, making 15 saves.

Ithaca jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the first quarter on goals from Dan Lee and Drew Turner. RIT stormed back, tallying four straight goals, taking a 4-2 lead on a man-up goal from Shawn Nally (Rochester, NY/McQuaid). Barnable and Wolf (2) also scored in the Tigers run. Brumfield broke the RIT run, cutting the Tigers lead to 4-3 on his goal early in the second quarter. The Tigers ran off three straight goals, taking a 7-3 lead on Tandy's second straight goal with 7:17 to play in the first half. Brumfield scored with 0.4 seconds remaining in the quarter to cut the RIT halftime lead to 7-4.

Wolf opened the third quarter scoring on his goal off an assist from Barnable early in the quarter. After a Brumfield goal cut the RIT lead to 8-5, the Tigers broke the game open tallying four straight goals to end the third quarter leading 12-5. Barnable scored three goals in the third quarter, while Tandy tallied twice.

Tait kept the ball rolling for RIT, opening the fourth quarter on his goal at the 11:06 mark. Barnable and Henderson each tallied to increase the RIT lead to 15-5 at the 9:53 mark of the fourth quarter. Ryan Rosenblum (Limerick, PA/Spring-Ford) scored twice in the quarter and Wolf tallied late to make it an 18-7 final.

The Tigers have now won four straight games versus Ithaca, knotting the all-time series at 28-28. RIT returns to action on Saturday, April 13 when the Tigers play at Skidmore College beginning at 1 p.m.
