SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY -- The No. 2 RIT (13-1, 6-0 Liberty League) men's lacrosse team cruised to a 20-4 win at Skidmore College (3-9, 0-6 Liberty League) in Liberty League action Saturday afternoon. The Tigers defense was stout Saturday, holding the Thoroughbreds scoreless in the second half. RIT clinched a first round bye in the league tournament with the win.
Shots were 61-39 in favor of RIT, who won the ground ball battle, 46-31. The Tigers won 21-of-28 face-offs, went 23-of-26 on clearing attempts, and were 2-of-4 on man-up chances.
Ryan Barnable (Whitby, Ontario/Donald A. Wilson) and Damon Currie each tallied three goals and three assists. Barnable surpassed 100 career points in the win.
Shawn Nally (Rochester, NY/McQuaid) had three goals and two assists, while
Dawson Tait (Ottawa, Ontario/Mother Teresa) tallied three goals and an assist.
Cam Isaac (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) recorded a goal and two assists, while
Trevor Smyth (Orangeville, Ontario/The Kiski School) scored twice.
Walker Hare (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville) got the win in net, making 15 saves.
Nick Montemorano (Victor, NY/Victor) won 13-of-17 face-offs and grabbed eight ground balls.
Chandler Allen (Ilderon, Ontario/Medway) had five ground balls and caused three turnovers.
Ward Mahoney led Skidmore with two goals and an assist. Tim Rahill took the loss in net for the Thoroughbreds, making 28 saves.
RIT led 7-2 after the first quarter, and 11-4 at halftime. The Tigers outscored the Thoroughbreds 6-0 in the third quarter, and tallied three more goals in the fourth quarter to win 20-4. Currie scored twice in the first quarter, while Smyth, Barnable, Nally, Tait and
Ryan Rosenblum (Limerick, PA/Spring-Ford) each scored in the quarter to give the Tigers a five-goal edge.
Tait, Smyth and Barnable each scored to begin the second quarter, increasing the RIT lead to 10-2 on Barnable's goal with 6:18 to play in the first half. After two straight Skidmore goals cut the RIT lead to 10-4, Tait tallied inside the final minute to give RIT an 11-4 halftime lead.
The Tigers poured it on in the second half, out-scoring Skidmore 9-0. Currie (2), Pent Eisrat, Nally (2), Isaac, Barnable,
John Mozrall (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford),
Sean Traynor (Highlands Ranch, CO/Valor Christian) and
Nick Ehmann (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) each scored in the second half for RIT. The Tigers defense held Skidmore to nine shots on target in the second half and forced six turnovers.
RIT has scored in double figures in all 14 games this season. The Tigers have tallied 60 goals in their last three games and have out-scored opponents, 130-40 in six Liberty League contests this season.
RIT returns to action on Tuesday, April 16 when the Tigers host Nazareth College at 6 p.m. on RIT's Turf Field.
