Women's lacrosse wins 19-15 thriller over Vassar College

ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT (4-7, 2-4 Liberty League) women's lacrosse team snapped its five-game losing streak with 19-15 win over Vassar College (4-4, 1-2 Liberty League) in Liberty League action from damp and soggy RIT Turf Field Friday afternoon.

Shots were 38-36 in favor of Vassar, while the Tigers won the ground ball battle, 21-15. RIT won 15-of-35 draw controls, went 19-of-23 on clearing attempts and were 4-of-7 on free position attempts.

Alanna Fallone (Penfield, NY/Penfield) led RIT with season-high totals of seven goals and eight points. Meghan Donahue (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) and Steph Darrell (East Norhtport, NY/St. Anthony's) each finished with four goals, while Olivia Africa (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) handed out a season-best five assists to go along with a goal.
 
Fallone won six draws, while Maddi Dillabough (Massena, NY/Massena) had five draw controls and caused two turnovers. Colette Rigas (Marietta, NY/Marcellus) tallied two goals to go along with three draw controls. Paulina Goodermote (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) got the win in net for RIT, making 15 saves.

Fiona MacLeod led Vassar with five goals and eight points. Caeli Porette tallied six goals, while Kelly Pushie and Gabi Patick each had a goal and an assist. Jackie Molloy took the loss in net for the Brewers, making eight saves.

RIT jumped out to an early 5-0 lead inside the first six minutes of the half. Darrell and Fallone each tallied two early goals, while Donahue gave the Tigers a 5-0 lead on her goal off an assist from Darrell with 24:24 to play in the opening half. The Brewers came storming back, answering with a five-goal run of their own, tying the score at 5-5 on a Porette goal with 12:26 remaining.
 
Leading 8-7 late in the first half, RIT scored three straight to end the first half leading 11-7. Krystyna Sterio (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), Fallone and Donahue each scored to give RIT a four-goal halftime advantage.

Porette opened the second half scoring with her goal off an assist from MacLeod that cut the RIT lead to 11-8. The Tigers ran off three straight goals, taking a 14-8 lead on a tally by Donahue with 23:10 to play.

Consecutive goals from Ashley Roberts, Porette and Patick cut the RIT lead to 14-11 with 20 minutes to play. RIT answered with a four-goal run, taking an 18-11 lead on Fallone's seventh goal of the game with 4:32 remaining. MacLeod scored three goals, while Porette added a late goal sandwiched around a tally by Rigas to make it a 19-15 final.
 
RIT returns to action on Saturday, April 6 at 3 p.m. versus Bard College.
