ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT baseball team (19-14) had its seven-game winning streak snapped, falling by a score of 4-0 to The College at Brockport (16-20) from sunny Tiger Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. It was the final regular season home game for RIT.
Brockport scored all four runs in the top of the second inning. Matteo Avallone had the big hit, a bases-loaded bloop double down the right field line that scored three runs.
Six Brockport pitchers combined on the shutout. Alex Brown got the win, allowing thre hits over the first three innings. Kyle Canavally, Stuart Martin, Ryan Greco, Tom Kretzler and Justin Valentino combined to allow just one hit over the final six innings.
Patrick Blackall (Hershey, PA/Hershey),
Jason Schulz (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool),
Daniel Zeglen (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) and
Patrick Mylott (Aurora, OH/Western Reserve Academy) singled for RIT, who came into today's game having scored 56 runs in a four-game set over Vassar last weekend.
Ben Clough (Tolland, CT/Tolland) started and gave up the four runs over three innings for RIT.
Liam Barry (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) fired two scoreless innings with three strikeouts, while
Trevor Povlock (Fairport, NY/Fairport) allowed just one hit in three innings out of the pen.
Jack Leahey (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) needed just 10 pitches to get through a perfect ninth inning.
RIT defeated Brockport, 6-3 last Wednesday, as Schulz had two hits and two RBI.
RIT wraps up the regular season with four road games at Liberty League rival Rensselaer this weekend. Saturday's doubleheader starts at 1 p.m., while Sunday's twin-bill starts at noon. RIT has qualified for the Liberty League Tournament and can clinch the top seed in next week's championship with three wins this weekend.
