Men's tennis suffers home loss to Ithaca

ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT men's tennis team (5-7, 0-6 Liberty League) suffered an 8-1 loss to Liberty League foe Ithaca College (3-7, 2-2 Liberty League) from the Gordon Field House on Wednesday afternoon.

Ithaca took two of the three doubles matches to begin the day. Ithaca's first and third doubles squads won by identical 8-3 scores. RIT would earn its lone point of the day at second doubles, as Nick Lim (West Caldwell, NJ/West Caldwell) and Patrick Mathews (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) won a stirring match over Michael Gardner and Max Prestwich, 8-7. With the match tied at 7-7, RIT took the tiebreaker by a score of 7-3 to earn the eighth point.

The Bombers would pull away in singles play, winning all six matches. RIT's Spencer Lowitt (Syosset, NY/Syosset) and Ithaca's Sam McGrath locked up in a good tussle at second singles, with McGrath coming out on top, 7-5, 6-1.

The Tigers return to action on Saturday with a road match at Hamilton College.
