ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's tennis team (12-4, 5-2 Liberty League) cruised to a 9-0 win over Bard College (5-8, 0-8 Liberty League) from the Midtown Athletic Club on Friday night.
RIT earned shutout wins in two of three doubles matches to get the evening started. At second doubles,
Amelia Ying (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and
Shayna Ginster (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) recorded an 8-0 win over Harper Zacharias and Ayanna Battle.
Claire Casalnova (Mars, PA/Pine Richland) and
Julianne Ho (Scarsdale, NY/Edgemont) blanked Duhita Das and Eva Grunblatt at the third position.
Kristen Zablonski (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) and
Anne Taylor (Beaver, PA/Beaver) also earned an 8-4 win.
Ying recorded a 6-2, 6-3 win over Katie Esposito at first singles before Taylor needed three sets to defeat Jamie-Rose Graham, 6-0, 4-6, 6-4.
RIT would pull away by losing just two total games over the final four matches to earn the shutout. Ginster earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at third singles, while Zablonski recorded a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the fourth position.
Claire Casalnova (Mars, PA/Pine Richland) and
Kirsten Auble (Portland, OR/Sunset) both earned wins by identical, 6-0, 6-0 scores to finish the match.
All six singles players now have at least 10 wins this season. Zablonski, Casalnova and Auble are now a combined 49-9 this season.
RIT's 12 dual wins are now tied for the second most in one season, one shy of the school mark of 13, set in 1982.
RIT wraps up the 2018-19 regular season at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday at Vassar College.
