ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT softball team (10-22) split a doubleheader versus Keuka College (13-17) in non-conference action from sunny Tiger Stadium Thursday afternoon. Keuka won game one, 4-2 in nine innings, while RIT rebounded to win game two, 2-1.
In game two,
Melissa Gould (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area) won her first collegiate game on the mound, scattering seven hits and one walk to go along with four strikeouts in seven innings. She needed just 81 pitches to earn the victory.
RIT would break a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Samm Carroll (Woodbridge, NJ/Woodbridge) led off with a double to left field. She moved to third on a single by
Sarah Thayer (Tully, NY/Fabius-Pompey) and scored on a sacrifice fly by
Danielle Hotz (Drexel Hill, PA/Upper Darby).
The Tigers out-hit Keuka, 11-8 in game two. Thayer went 3-for-3, while Carroll,
Hannah Trumble (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon),
Brianna Bilich (Penryn, CA/Del Oro) and
Erin Guinan (Geneva, NY/Geneva) added two hits apiece. Guinan would give RIT a 1-0 lead in the first inning, reaching on an infield single that scored Trumble, who doubled.
Jesse Hammers and Jordan Cole had two hits apiece for Keuka. Whitney Tyler took the loss on the mound, striking out five batters in six innings.
Keuka would win game one by scoring two runs in the top of the ninth inning to break a 2-2 tie. RIT scored a run in both the fourth and fifth innings to rally from a 2-0 deficit.
Hammers had three of Keuka's four hits in the game, while stealing two bases. She led off the game with a bunt single and scored in the opening inning and drove in Keuka's fourth run with a single in the ninth inning.
Colleen Mooney picked up the win for Keuka, allowing six hits and two runs (one earned) with three strikeouts in the nine-inning complete game.
Madisen Baldwin (Washougal, WA/Washougal) had two hits to lead the way for RIT.
Olivia Doret (Fairfax, VA/Chantilly) drove in a run.
Torie Adler (West Chester, PA/B. Reed Henderson) pitched all nine innings for the Tigers, allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits with eight strikeouts.
RIT holds a 21-8 edge in the all-time series between the two schools.
RIT is back in action at 11 a.m. on Saturday with a home doubleheader versus No. 10 Ithaca College. RIT will honor its Class of 2019 (
