ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (6-9) women's lacrosse team fell by a score of 9-7 to Nazareth College (9-7) in non-conference action from RIT's Turf Field in the rain on Tuesday afternoon. Prior to the game, the Tigers honored senior
Jessica Gover (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) as she made her final regular season appearance at RIT.
Shots were 31-26 in favor of Nazareth. Ground balls were 23-19 in favor of the Golden Flyers. RIT won seven draw controls and were 23-of-25 on clearing attempts.
Krystyna Sterio (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool),
Meghan Donahue (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) and
McKenna Joint (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) each had two goals for the Tigers.
Paulina Goodermote (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) took the loss in net, making 15 saves.
Emma Robinson led Nazareth with three goals. Emily Allen tallied two goals, while Lily Aldrich tallied a goal and an assist. Brianna Rizzari got the win in net for the Golden Flyers, making 11 saves.
Donahue gave RIT an early lead on her goal off an assist from
Steph Darrell (East Norhtport, NY/St. Anthony's) inside the first three minutes of action. Nazareth answered with two straight goals, taking a 2-1 lead on a Callahan Lyon free position goal at the 22:45 mark. The Tigers ran off three straight goals, taking a 4-2 lead on Donahue's second goal of the half with 4:21 to play. Joint and Sterio also scored for the Tigers. Regan McGwin tallied with three minutes to play in the first half to cut the Tigers lead to 4-3 at the break.
Robinson tied the game at 4-4 on her goal off an assist from Aldrich at the 25:58 mark of the second half. After Joint scored to give RIT a 5-4 edge, Nazareth ran off three straight goals, taking a 7-5 lead on a Robinson goal with 9:55 to play in regulation.
Alanna Fallone (Penfield, NY/Penfield) made it a one-goal deficit on her goal with 8:56 to play, but Nazareth came right back, scoring two straight goals, including one from Addilys Geitner that made the score 9-6. Sterio scored with eight seconds remaining to make it a 9-7 final.
RIT closes out the regular season on Saturday, April 27 when the Tigers play at No. 21 Ithaca College at 1 p.m. The Tigers need a win to keep their Liberty League postseason chances alive.
