CANTON, NY – The RIT softball team (9-21, 2-8 Liberty League) exploded for season-high totals of 15 runs and 21 hits to win game two of a scheduled doubleheader, 15-7 at Liberty League opponent St. Lawrence University (16-14, 2-10 Liberty League) on Monday afternoon from Saints Softball Field. The Saints won game one, 4-2.
The Tigers scored at least once in six of seven innings and put up five multiple-run frames in game two. RIT scored 15 runs for the first time since April 28, 2016 and recorded A 20-hit game for the first time since April 13, 2008. RIT had 15 singles, five doubles and a triple. Eight different Tigers had at least one hit, while five had three or more hits.
Hannah Trumble (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) became just the fifth Tiger in program history to record a five-hit game. She went 5-for-6 with two runs scored and two runs batted in.
Olivia Doret (Fairfax, VA/Chantilly) went 3-for-6 with a career-high five RBIs, while
Jennifer Vickery (Gloversville, NY/Gloversville) was 3-for-4 with four runs scored and
Samm Carroll (Woodbridge, NJ/Woodbridge) finished 3-for-3, scoring three times.
Raquel Estrada (Middletown, NY/Middletown) added three hits and a pair of RBI, while
Erin Guinan (Geneva, NY/Geneva) also had two hits, including a triple and two RBIs.
Torie Adler (West Chester, PA/B. Reed Henderson) came in on relief and picked up her seventh win of the season, allowing eight hits and five runs (four earned) over 6 2/3 innings.
Skylar Hein led the Saints by going 3-for-4 with four RBI, while Angelina Carney finished 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.
RIT opened the day by recording 10 hits, but left 10 runners on base. With the game tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth, Hein launched a two-run homer to lift St. Lawrence to the win.
Guinan,
Brianna Bilich (Penryn, CA/Del Oro) and
Danielle Hotz (Drexel Hill, PA/Upper Darby) had two hits apiece to lead RIT in game one. Estrada drove in a run with a first inning double, while
Haley Czerwinski (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) singled in a run in the second inning.
Adler started game one and pitched into the sixth inning, allowing five hits and two earned runs, while striking out four batters.
Abcde Cortinas (San Antonio, TX/Highlands) gave up two hits and a run in the sixth.
Caroline Young picked up the win in relief, allowing five hits and no runs in 5 2/3 innings.
RIT is back in action on Thursday afternoon with a pair of home games against non-league opponent Keuka College. First pitch from Tiger Stadium is at 3 p.m.
