Women's tennis clinches Liberty League postseason berth with win at St. Lawrence

CANTON, NY – The RIT women's tennis team (11-4, 4-2 Liberty League) clinched a postseason berth with a dramatic, 5-4 win over Liberty League rival St. Lawrence University (8-6, 3-3 Liberty League) from Newell Field House Saturday.

RIT trailed 4-2 in the match before winning the final three matches to earn the victory. Kristen Zablonski (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) picked up a 6-3, 6-0 win over Maddie Nasch at fourth singles, before Claire Casalnova (Mars, PA/Pine Richland) won in three sets over Carly Jefferson at fifth singles. Casalnova lost the opening set, 6-4, before roaring back to win set two, 6-2 and the third and decisive set, 6-3.

With the match on the line, freshman Kirsten Auble (Portland, OR/Sunset) continued her tremendous first season, earning a three-set win over Marie Bank. Auble took the first set, 6-2 before Bank rallied to win set two, 7-5. Auble found another gear in the final set and rolled to a 6-2 win for her 16th singles win of 2018-19.

RIT opened the match by winning two of three doubles points. Anne Taylor (Beaver, PA/Beaver) and Zablonski recorded a decisive 8-1 win over Christian Ryan and Grace van Tartwijk at first doubles. RIT's second doubles duo of Amelia Ying (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and Shayna Ginster (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) earned an 8-2 win over Jefferson and Nasch.

RIT's 11 dual wins are now the fourth most in one season in program history.

The Tigers are back in action with a home match versus Bard College at noon on Saturday, April 27 from RIT Tennis Courts. RIT wraps up the regular season the following day at Vassar College.
