CANTON, NY – The RIT men's tennis team (6-10, 0-7 Liberty League) suffered an 8-1 loss at Liberty League rival St. Lawrence University (7-6, 3-3 Liberty League) from Newell Field House Saturday afternoon.
The Saints opened the match by taking all three doubles matches by scores of 8-4, 8-5 and 8-4.
Jake Wolicki (Canton, MA/Canton) garnered RIT's lone point of the day, defeating Alec Roslin of St. Lawrence in a stirring, three-set battle. Wolicki won the opening set, 6-3, before Roslin came back to even the match with a 7-5 win in set two. Wolicki earned the hard-fought point with a 10-7 victory in the third and decisive set.
Both
Patrick Mathews (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) at the third position and
Michael Peters (New Hope, PA/Holy Ghost Prep) at sixth singles just missed extending their matches to three sets, as both lost 7-6 in second set tiebreakers.
RIT is eliminated from Liberty League Tournament contention with the loss.
The Tigers wrap up the 2018-19 season with a home match versus Bard College at noon on Saturday, April 27 from RIT Tennis Courts.
